MARQUETTE -- Anna Aho Rink (D) defeated incumbent Karl Bohnak (R) in Tuesday’s midterm election to serve the 109th District in the Michigan State Legislature. Bohnak had been the first Republican to win the 109th district since 1955.
“I can’t even begin to thank you all enough for putting your faith in me throughout this campaign,” said Aho Rink in an announcement made mid-Wednesday morning. “As a born and raised Yooper, I have so much love for the UP and will fight every day for everyone who calls it Home. Seriously, WE DID THIS! I love you all so much and I’m excited to get to work.”
In Marquette County, Aho Rink received 19,575 votes to Bohnak’s 13,898. In Baraga County Bohnak recorded 2,172 votes over Democrat Anna Aho Rink, who received 1,313 votes, with six write-in ballots cast.
The Mining Journal reached out to Bohnak for comment but had not received a response by press time.
