LANSING - The Michigan Community Service Commission is encouraging Michiganders to nominate the friends, family and peers who have made a difference during the COVID-19 pandemic for the 2021 Governor’s Service Awards that will take place virtually on Jan. 12, 2022.
"There are Michiganders in every county who dedicated their time and resources to help neighbors and build up their communities through the pandemic," said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. "The Governor's Service Awards are a small token of our appreciation and recognition of Michiganders who went above and beyond, and I encourage everyone to nominate someone who lifted others up during the pandemic and had a hand in making Michigan stronger and more resilient."
The 2021 Awards will honor those who have supported food and health resources, education and youth, seniors and more. Organizations, individuals and business will be honored. To recognize those who go above and beyond, Michigan’s governors have presented the Governor’s Service Awards since 1994.
"We are excited to recognize those who have helped others during the pandemic for the Governor's Service Awards," said Michigan Community Service Commission Executive Director Ginna Holmes. "It will provide an opportunity to reflect on the challenges we have overcome throughout the pandemic and celebrate those individuals and organizations who have gone above and beyond to make a difference."
Nominations should be submitted through the newly launched Michigan Heroes website, miheroesproject.org, and are due by Dec. 3 to be eligible for the awards. Anyone can be nominated for helping others. All nominees will be featured on the Michigan Heroes Project website.
For nearly 30 years, the Michigan Community Service Commission has supported Michigan volunteers, organizations and businesses that are committed to service and play a critical role in improving the lives of people and our communities.
