Tree planting on the Tolkien Trails

HOUGHTON — Tree planting on the Tolkien trails! Come join student and community volunteer’s to plant along some of Houghton’s finest recreational trails.

What? Invasive emerald ash borer has caused extensive damage to the ash tree population on the Tech Trails, leaving gaps in the canopy. The gaps are being filled in with invasive plants. Young trees will help reestablish the forest in areas once dominated by ash and preserve the beauty of the Tech Trails for future users. All are welcome.

Where? Meet at the Tolkien Trails parking lot on Pilgrim Rd. We will have a sign with our location for that particular day.

When? Oct. 15 at 1 to 4 p.m., Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Questions? Contact Sigrid Resh, Ph.D., at scresh@mtu.edu or phone: 906-487-1139.
