Marion G. DeWitt ‘Gerry’ Chynoweth

DELTA TWP – Born Nov. 10, 1928 in Calumet, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 at age 86. Mrs. DeWitt was the oldest of four children.

She graduated in 1950 from the University of Michigan where she met and married the love of her life, the late Paul T. DeWitt, D.D.S. in 1948, and worked for many years in his practice after staying home with her children.

She was an active member of St. Gerard Catholic Church where she served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Past President of the Womens Guild, and was a member of Mater Dei Circle. Gerry was a devout Catholic who regularly attended 8:10 daily Mass for many years.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Andrew and Matthew; and her brother, Dennis Chynoweth.

Surviving are her two sisters, Sharon (Ross) Macnab, and Dawn Fortson; four children, Dr. Paul of Hastings; Dr. Stephen (Marilyn) of Troy; Kevin (Theresa) of Holland, Ohio; and Dr. Mark (Kathy) of Lansing; eight granddaughters, Elizabeth, Dr. Marie (Dr. Kevin Horowitz), Kathryn, Carolyn, Jennifer, Rachel, Laura, and Jenny; seven grandsons: Christopher, John Paul “JP”, Thomas, Patrick, Timothy (Anna), Stephen (Sarah), and Nathaniel; and Linda DeWitt.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Clare Bridge of Delta and Great Lakes Hospice for the outstanding care they gave to Gerry.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Gerard Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Klein as celebrant.

Rite of Committal will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, April 10, 2-4p.m. and 6-8p.m. at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel, 6020 W. Saginaw, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.

Visitation continues on Saturday at the church at 10 a.m. Memorials can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Gerard or St. Vincent Catholic Charities. Condolences can be made at palmerbush.com.
