Florence Margaret Shea Yoder

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.- Florence Margaret Shea Yoder, 96, of Louisiana Avenue, died Thursday morning, February 26, 2015.

Mrs. Yoder was born February 22, 1919 in Houghton, the daughter of S. Robert Shea and Florence Shea.

She grew up in Houghton and attended St. Ignatius school (’32) and Houghton High School (’36) prior to attending Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.

In 1939 she married George M. Yoder, and the couple relocated to Iowa City, Iowa.

George’s work subsequently took them to Dayton, Ohio in 1940 to Falls Church, Virginia in 1947, and to Fairborn, Ohio in 1966.

While living in Fairborn Mrs. Yoder completed her bachelor’s degree at Wright State University and taught at a middle school.

In 1988 she and George moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Throughout the years, she showed a love for music, giving piano lessons to many of the neighborhood children in Virginia.

She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and needlework.

She enjoyed travel as well, visiting among other places eastern Canada, Iceland, and Alaska.

She was a member of St. Mary’s.

Mrs. Yoder is survived by three sons, George R. Yoder (Kathy) of Accokeek, Maryland; Robert Yoder of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Paul J. Yoder (Aida) of Port Chester, New York, four grandchildren Stephen, Anne, Katie and Becky Yoder.

Funeral Mass was conducted Thursday March 5, 2015 at 11a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with interment at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
