Philip T. Foltz

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Philip T. Foltz, 80, passed away in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on October 30th, 2015, surrounded by family and the love of his life; his wife, Mary.

Phil was born in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, on May 18, 1935, to Virgil and Dorothy Foltz.

Phil earned a Civil Engineering degree from Michigan Technological University. While at Tech, Phil played football, pledged the Sigma Rho Fraternity, and was a proud member of Air Force ROTC.

Following graduation, Phil married Mary Gemignani, in Hancock before departing to serve his country for the next three years in Savannah, Georgia, at Hunter Air Force Base.

Following his service to his country, Phil began a career in sales that lasted over 35 years, with the majority of his career in the printing industry, where he was well known by all and loved by those who had the opportunity to work with him.

Phil and his family spent most of his working years in the Chicago metropolitan area, with stops in California, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

Phil retired at the age of 65, making Lake Gerald, Twin Lakes, his home. Phil and Mary spent many winters in Florida during their retirement years, surrounded by many of their friends from the U.P.

Phil lived his life with courage and passion. He enjoyed snow skiing, and spending time with his family and friends. Phil often commented that he learned more about life on the football field than he did in any classroom. Phil lived his life to the fullest, with principle and integrity.

Phil was preceded in death by his mother; father; and his sisters, Diane and Martha.

Surviving are his sister, Nancy Watkins, of Houston, Texas; brother, Warren “Bud” Foltz calling Puyallup, Washington home.

Phil leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Mary (Gemignani) Foltz; his sons, Philip (Buck) Foltz and wife, Karen Foltz of Houghton, Greg Foltz and partner Michael Dilius of Fort Myers, Florida; Jeffery Foltz and his wife, Gaynor Collins of Paradise Valley, Arizona; and daughter, Kristen (Foltz) Hatfield and husband Donald Hatfield of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Mindy Nicklas and husband Jeremy Nicklas of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tristan and Annika Foltz of Houghton, Ashleigh and Courtney Foltz of Paradise Valley, Arizona, Quintin, Austin and Griffin Hatfield of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; as well as great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Logan Nicklas of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

A mass of remembrance and a service will take place next spring or summer at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Phil’s passion for life, his infectious laugh, brought happiness to every life he touched.

Phil was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be remembered and missed by all.
