Carol A. Richards

BARAGA – Carol A. Richards, 79, of Baraga passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

She was born in L’Anse on May 15, 1936, the daughter of the late Edwin and Martha (Partanen) Karvonen.

Carol attended school in Baraga and L’Anse and graduated from L’Anse High School in 1954.

She married Ronald E. Richards on June 19, 1954, in L’Anse.

She was a member of the L’Anse Baptist Church. Carol enjoyed making baby/Barbie clothes, baking, sewing and cake decorating. She was an avid reader.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Ronald of Baraga; children, Susan (Daryl) Bickell of Hawaii, Beth (Robert) Bobnock of Channing, Debra (Marc) Wilson of Cheswick, Pennsylvania, Jeanne Grandy of Loganville, Georgia, Barbara (Kru) Olsen of Chamblee, Georgia, Mary DeRuiter of Durand and Timothy “Tim” (Sherri) Richards of Benton Harbor; grandchildren, Christopher, Marsha, Pamela, Steven, Cedric, Sarah, Becky, Robert, Aimee, Heather and Laura; great grandchildren, Julie, Courtney, Hunter, Cody, Tyler, Damien, Isabella, Sierra, Marley and Reagan; brothers, Wayne (Pat) Karvonen of Arnheim, Robert Karvonen of L’Anse and Michael “Mike” (Ellen) Karvonen of Nisula; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Dennis; one sister; her brother, David; and her son-in-law, Gordon.

Funeral services for Carol will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Jerry Bishop officiating.

The family will greet friends at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the L’Anse Baptist Church.

Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery.
