Gloria A. (Roger) Ryynanen

CEDAR BAY – Gloria A. (Roger) Ryynanen, 79, a resident of Cedar Bay, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016, at home following a lengthy illness.

She was born on September 9, 1937, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Carl and Elfie (Lampinen) Tikkanen.

As a child, she attended the Hancock and Houghton Schools and was a graduate of Jeffers High School with the class of 1955.

On June 22, 1957, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Roger Ryynanen. The couple had resided in Atlantic Mine before moving to Seattle, Washington, where they raised six children. In 1997, they retired and made their home in Cedar Bay.

Mrs. Ryynanen was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.

She enjoyed spending time outdoors with Roger, sea kayaking, hiking, cross-country skiing and traveling. She also enjoyed various crafting projects such as needle point, knitting and crocheting.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her infant brother, Gordon; her aunts, Martha, Alice, Ethel, Rose, Helen; and her uncle, Eldon.

Surviving are her husband, Roger Ryynanen of Cedar Bay; her children, James (Janel) Ryynanen of Cokato, Minnesota, Thomas (Christina Howe) Ryynanen of Kent, Washington, Kathleen (Robert) Jeromchek of Port Ludlow, Washington, Daniel (Cindy) Ryynanen of Hobart, Washington, Martin Ryynanen of Pahrump, Nevada, Steven (Lorna) Ryynanen of Dassel, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her aunts, Mabel Trasti of Ontonagon and Verna Ann Hendrickson of Kingston, Minnesota; her cousins, Judy Johnson of Georgia, Marilyn Ollanketo of Quincy and June Kelly of Texas.

A funeral service for Gloria will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday, December 2, 2016, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
