Mavis M. Anderson

GRASS LAKE – Mavis M. Anderson, 90, of Grass Lake, passed away at home March 26, 2017.
She was born in Hayti, South Dakota, the daughter of Matt and Jenny (Kinnunen) Holappa.
She was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Katrina and Devon Kalahar; parents; brothers, Raymond and Marvin Holappa.
Mavis is survived by her husband, of 60 years, William; children, Soren (Monica) Leif, Carl (Theresa Gallas), Norris (Debbie) Anderson and Jenny (Patrick) Kalahar; grandchildren, Dana, Emma, Olivia, Miranda, Matthew and Michael Anderson; sister, Violet Pertile; several nieces and nephews.
Mavis grew up in the U.P. and met the love of her life, Bill and were married in 1956. Mavis and Bill had moved to Seattle and Pasco, Washington, before landing in Grass Lake. It was in Grass Lake where Mavis and Bill raised their five children and retired.
Mavis was a great cook and enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. Through her daycare center, she took wonderful care of many children who were very dear to her. Mavis will be remembered for her wonderful smile, tender heart and always enjoying to be with children and neighbors. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
A celebration of Mavis’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Christ Lutheran Church, Michigan Center with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Ryan Prondzinski will officiate.
