Edwin Norman Mattila

FLINT – Edwin Norman Mattila, 96 of Flint, formerly of Detroit and Atlantic Mine, died October 19, 2017.

Edwin was born March 9, 1921, in Atlantic Mine, the son of Sam and Hannah (Oja) Mattila.

He is a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and a Purple Heart Recipient. He was self employed as an Upholsterer for many years.

Surviving are niece, Tootsie Waggoner of Overland Park, Kansas; nephews, Robert (Viola) Norkol of Hancock, and Thomas (Nancy) Wiinamaki of Flint; several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Carl Mattila, Tyne Wiinamaki, Alfred Mattila, Amelia Norkol, Walter Mattila and Alina Manninen.

Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service. Another service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock. Burial in Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
