Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Blohm Moore

CALUMET — On Friday, November 30, 2018, Elizabeth “Betty” Blohm Moore, 91, passed away at The Lighthouse of Hancock.

Betty was born in 1927 to Charles and Mamie Leppanen Miettunen. She was raised in Marquette and attended Messiah Lutheran Church. She graduated from Graveraet High School in 1945 and received her RN degree from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.

In 1949, she married Edwin A. DeRoche, with whom she had two daughters, Jo A. DeRoche and June M. Swanson of Marquette.

In 1961, she married Lauren B. “Larry” Blohm, and together they had three sons, Warren Charles “Chuck” Blohm (deceased), William A. “Bill” Blohm (deceased), and Larry A. Blohm of Calumet.

Betty worked as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital and the City of Marquette Health Department. She later worked for the Marquette County Health Department and for the Norlite Nursing Center.

She and Larry were avid square dancers and members of the Wells Vagabond Camping Club.

Five years after Larry’s death, Betty married Reggie Moore and moved to his home of Great Yarmouth in England. They lived there until Reg retired in 1994 and then returned to Marquette. The following year they moved to the Leppanen family farm in Hancock, to care for her uncle, Fred Leppanen.

After his passing, they moved to Calumet and became active members of Faith Lutheran Church, where they sang in the choir.

After Reg died in 2014, her son, Larry, moved to Calumet and provided kind and loving care for the remainder of Betty’s life.

In addition to her daughters and son, Larry, Betty is survived by her sister, Charlotte Hanson of Ann Arbor; her nephew, Matthew Hanson of Milan; three grandchildren, Jasmine (Chris) Schmidt of Milwaukee, Janet (Brian) Anderson of Marquette, and Jason (Amanda) Swanson of Marquette; five great grandchildren, Claire & Jacob Anderson, Hannah & Micah Schmidt and Boden Swanson.

A memorial celebration may be held in the spring.
