Kevin J. Koski

MARQUETTE — Kevin J. Koski, age 64, died on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Trillium Hospice House in Marquette, following a short battle with cancer.

He was born on January 4, 1954, in Detroit, to Benhart and Viola (Kempainen) Koski. He and his twin brother, Keith, were the youngest of five children.

He graduated from Jeffers High School in 1972. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in June of 1972.

He was united in marriage to Christine (Petrelius) on October 6, 1973. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, they made their home in Marquette. Together they have two children, Christa (Glen) Gardner and Amanda (Adam) Kicker. Kevin began working for the Presque Isle Power Plant in 1977 and retired after 38 years in 2015.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Keith; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Petrelius; and grandson, Jonah Edward Gardner.

He is survived by his bride of 45 years; his two children; his grandchildren, Christina, Catie, Noelle, Marcus, Gracie, Joy, Faith and Glen (Celia); his siblings, Marie Ruotsala, Carole (Cliff) Dahl, and Michael Koski; his father-in-law, Robert Petrelius; brother-in-law, Ronald (Sandra) Petrelius; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Kevin was most known for his easy-going, likeable nature. He was a hard worker and loved to help anyone in need. He loved working in his garden, ‘moving’ snow, and watching hockey games. As he stated days before his passing, he loved his life. He was very loved and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the doctors (especially Dr. Joe Steele), nurses, and support staff of Marquette General Hospital, the staff at Trillium House, and the staff at Lake Superior Hospice, for their care of Kevin during his final days.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at 2 p.m.

Visitation will be held starting at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. It will be held at Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee, with Pastor Dale Niskanen and Pastor Mike Carriere presiding.
