Shirley Ann (Komula) Rintala

HOUGHTON — Shirley Ann (Komula) Rintala, 75, of the Houghton Canal area, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019, at the home of her daughter.

She was born on June 20, 1943, in Hancock, and was the daughter of the late William and Hilma (Lindrus) Komula.

Shirley attended Hancock Central High School, graduating in 1961.

She was united in marriage to Sherwood Rintala, and they had three children. Sherwood passed away on January 6, 2017.

In her younger years, Shirley enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, weaving and other fabric arts. In her later years, she enjoyed getting together with their croquet group and coffee clutching at local restaurants.

Besides her parents and husband, Shirley was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Todd Raffaelli; a brother, John; and sisters, Bertha, Alice, Sharon and Viola.

Surviving are her children, Jim (Lisa); granddaughter, Eeva of Boyne City; Gail and granddaughters, Shayna and Lacey of Houghton, and Karla of Rockwell, North Carolina; and sisters, Helen (Dan) Thomas, Ethel (Jim) Chandanais and Donna Komula.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019, at 1 p.m. at the Oskar Cemetery, with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate.

Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
