Harold S. ‘PA’ Paavola

HANCOCK — Harold S. “PA” Paavola, 85, a resident of Lakeview Manor in Hancock and former South Range resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at home.

He was born on August 27, 1933, in Adams Township, a son of the late Waino and Ellen (Erickson) Paavola. Harold attended the Adams Township schools.

Mr. Paavola was a veteran, having served with the United States Army and Navy.

Harold had worked as a miner for White Pine Copper Mine until his retirement and then he would volunteer shoveling snow for the South Range State Bank during the winter.

On July 25, 1959, he was united in marriage to Catherine “Dolly” Ravasz. The couple resided in South Range where they raised a son Gary. After parting ways the couple remained very close friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his former wife, Catherine “Dolly” Paavola; and his brother, Robert.

Surviving are his son, Gary Paavola of Hancock; his sister, Helen Snell of Petoskey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service for PA will be held at a later time in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.
