Mary Anne Battersby

HOUGHTON — Mary Anne Battersby, 89, a resident of Laurium, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at the Omega House in Houghton.

She was born on October 9, 1930, in Laurium, to Carl and Helen (Wojnacki) Meyers. She attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1948. Following high school, Mary Anne moved to Detroit where she began working at Federals Department Store.

On October 19, 1957, she was united in marriage to Michael Battersby in Detroit. Shortly after they got married, she and Michael moved back to the Copper Country to raise their family. After their kids were raised and Michael passed away, Mary Anne began working as a housekeeper at St. Paul the Apostle Church and Church of the Resurrection.

She loved spending time at the camp in Helltown and at the beach in Bete Gris. Her best days were spent with family in Keweenaw. She was a lifelong member of the Bete Gris Babes Maritime Choir. Mary Anne loved to complete crossword puzzles, knit, and travel whenever possible. She was also an avid history buff and reader. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Helen Meyers; her sister, Margaret; and her husband, Michael.

She is survived by her son, Tim (Debbi) Battersby of Ada, her daughters, Barb (Mark Peterson) Battersby of Jacobsville and Mary Pat Crampton of Marquette; one granddaughter, Hannah (and her fiance, Matthew Zerbst) Crampton.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at St. Paul the Apostle Church.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral home on Friday, November 22, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Burial will take place in the spring at Lake View Cemetery.
