William Edward Heinonen

HANCOCK — William Edward Heinonen, 74, of Hancock, passed away on January 19, 2020.

Bill was born in Hancock, on November 21, 1945, the eldest child of Edward and Elaine (Nordstrom) Heinonen. He was a graduate of Hancock High School. After graduation, he worked at Ford Motor Co. for nine years. He served in the US Army from 1966-1968.

In 1972 Bill returned to Hancock, where he owned and operated the Arcadian Motel, worked for D&N Savings & Loan, and for the Hancock Public Schools for 15 years.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and daughter, Marcie Elaine in 1988.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara (Eskola) Heinonen; his children, Stephen (Amy) Heinonen of Delano, Minnesota, Carla (David) Bekkala of Hancock, Susan (Dan) Kramer of Howell, Dean Heinonen of Long Lake, Minnesota, Molly (Aaron) Daavettila of Howell, Katie (Chad) Arvola of Delano, Minnesota, David (Emily) Heinonen of Hancock, Janet (Andy) Larson of Atlantic Mine, William (Jenna) Heinonen of Cokato, Minnesota, and Leah Heinonen of Houghton; along with 39 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Paul (Marilyn), Marvin (Cindy), Tom (Jan), and Ken (Leslie); his sisters, Sandra (Jim) Juopperi, Barbara (Tom) Helminen and Betty (Pete) Wesa; his stepmother, Helen (Lana) Heinonen, with 7 stepbrothers and stepsisters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation and funeral will take place at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church on Sharon Avenue in Houghton.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., friends may also call one hour prior to the funeral.

Burial will take place in the Spring at the Liminga Cemetery.
