Alice M. Kolehmainen

SOUTH RANGE — Alice M. Kolehmainen, 87, a resident of South Range, passed away on Thursday February 6, 2020, at the Omega House in Houghton following a short illness.

She was born on September 10, 1932, in South Range, a daughter of the late Eino and Sylvia (Lohela) Kolehmainen. Alice was raised in South Range and was a graduate of Jeffers High School with the Class of 1950. She then graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in 1953.

Ms. Kolhemainen then worked for a short time in Wyandotte, at Wyandotte General Hospital in the OB Department. She then moved back to South Range and worked in the OB Department for St. Joseph’s Hospital, she also worked for Dr. Sloan in his office, the Michigan Technological University Clinic and the Health Department as a visiting nurse. Alice retired after being the coordinator for the immunization clinics for the local grade schools.

Alice was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range where she was a part of the quilters group, knitting group, prayer group and sang in the choir.

Preceding her in death were her parents and grandparents.

Surviving are her sister, Sylvia Joan (Richard) Illgen of Houghton; her nieces and nephews, Raymond (Jane) and their children, Alison and Raymond, Robert (Dianne) and their children, Lauren and Nick, Caroline (Jere) and their children, Elliot, Benjaman and Mary Catherine (Mark) and their children Alex, Rachel and Chelsea, Caryn (Mark) and their children, Kyle, Jake, and Evan, Richard (Amanda) and their children, Cara and Renae; her great grand nephews, Gabe, Luke and Connor; and numerous cousins and her church family

Funeral services for Alice will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range with Vicar Micah Cavaleri to officiate.

Spring burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.

Friends may call on Wednesday February 12, 2020, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Omega House 2211, Maureen Lane, Houghton, MI 49931, in memory of Alice Kolehmainen.
