Carol A. Lahti

HANCOCK — Carol A. Lahti, 81, a resident of Hancock, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe in Hancock, where she had been a resident for the past month.

She was born on October 7, 1938, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Edwin and Gladys (Widmaier) Sleeman. Carol was raised in Hancock and was a graduate of Hancock Central High School with the Class of 1956. She then attended Northern Michigan University.

On June 28, 1958, she was united in marriage to Bruce Lahti. They resided in Hancock for most of their lives and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2018. Carol and Bruce complemented each other’s skill sets as they owned and operated several businesses over the years.

Carol loved family get-togethers at their camp on Lake Superior and looked forward to their Florida vacations in the winter. Carol enjoyed many things, in particular, reading, playing cards with her grandchildren, watching the Green Bay Packers, and listening to music.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Bruce; her son, David; and her parents.

Surviving are her children, Cheryl Harter of Hancock, Brian Lahti of Houghton, and James (Margaret) Lahti of Altoona, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Casey) Hainault, Brook Harter, Nathan (Nicole) Lahti, Emily Lahti, Alex Lahti, Jane Lahti, Carolyn (Daniel) Woldring, Hannah Lahti and Nora Lahti; her six great grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Paula Lahti of Hancock; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A prayer service for Carol will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Fr. John Martignon to officiate.

Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

Friends may call on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock.
