Robert Russell Rogers

LAKE HAVASU — Robert Russell Rogers, age 93, a resident of Calumet, passed away on February 17, 2020 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Bob was born on October 28, 1926 at the Calumet Public Hospital to Stanley and Elizabeth (Rosemergy) Rogers.

He graduated from Calumet Hight School in June 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served until the end of World War II having achieved the rank of electrician’s mate 3rd class.

Upon discharge he was employed by Houghton County Electric Co. (later known as UPPCO) beginning as a lineman and retired in 1989 as Western Division foreman of meter department, after 42 years.

In May, 1958 he married Lois Deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Flint, Michigan. They celebrated 61 years of marriage together.

Robert was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge, Calumet Chapter No. 153 R.A.M. and a lifelong member of Calumet United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends where he was known as a great story teller.

Robert is survived by his wife, Lois, daughter Deborah (Peter) Manderfield, son Robert D., sister Elizabeth Everett, sister-in-law Mary Lou Rogers and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was pre-deceased by brother, Donald.

At Robert’s request there will be no visitation or public funeral. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to the Calumet United Methodist Church.

The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells in the sand,

The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.

The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains….
