Vicki Lynn Peterson

L’ANSE — Vicki Lynn Peterson, 53, of L’Anse, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 3, 2020, at her home.

She was born on February 8, 1966, in Marquette, daughter of Milton and Clarice (Penrose) Rautio. Vicki graduated from Westwood High School in 1984.

While in high school, she was involved in many sports including golf, tennis, basketball, and track & field. Vicki graduated from NMU with her LPN in 1987 and received her RN from Finlandia University in 2004. Always the learner, Vicki received a Masters Degree in Leadership Management from Grand Canyon University in 2012. Vicki worked for a variety of healthcare facilities until she was hired by the U.P. Health System-Portage in 1994. An extremely hard worker, Vicki worked her way up to the position of Emergency Department Manager until she had to retire due to health reasons in 2016. Vicki also taught several training sessions including ACLS, PALS, TNCC. She was also the Disaster Coordinator and Trauma Coordinator for Houghton County. Vicki also volunteered as a nurse at Gitche Gumee, as a nurse and office assistant at Copper Country Christian School, and as a Sunday School teacher at L’Anse Baptist Church.

Vicki married Rueben K. Peterson on August 15, 1987, in Ishpeming. They resided in Pelkie until they moved to L’Anse in 2018 due to a house fire.

Vicki was selfless, always thinking of others above herself. She was kind, funny, compassionate, and often encouraged others by sharing her faith in God’s.

Vicki loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching the Hallmark channel, observing nature, and taking rides through the woods, especially in the fall.

She is survived by her husband, Rueben Peterson of L’Anse; mother, Clarice (Bill) McCoy of L’Anse; daughters, Stacy (Brian) Steinbach of Waukegan, Illinois, Heather (Jacob) Morris of Salina, Kansas, Christa Peterson of L’Anse; brothers, Mike (Wendy) Rautio of Gwinn, Mark (Lisa) Rautio of Ishpeming; sister, Jacqueline (Peter) Froiland of Hancock; five grandchildren, Anastasia Steinbach, Oluwasemilore Olawale, Elijah Steinbach, Aria Morris, and Gabriel Steinbach; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Milton Rautio.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 7, 2020, at L’Anse Baptist Church from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, February 8, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the L’Anse Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Bishop officiating.

A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in the Spring in the Pelkie Cemetery.
