Melissa Ann (Curtis) Beckman

CHESANING — Melissa Ann (Curtis) Beckman, 31, passed away with her husband Ryan by her side at Union Court Assisted Living in Chesaning, Michigan on April 6th, 2020 following a battle with Pick’s disease.

Melissa was born on January 30, 1989 in Southfield, Michigan to Rick and Janet (Johnson) Curtis.

She was a 2007 honor graduate of Calumet High School and went on to graduate with honors from Northern Michigan University in Marquette receiving her teaching degree. She then returned to her alma mater, Calumet High School, where she taught for two years.

On July 25th, 2015 she married Ryan Beckman and moved to Marquette where she taught at Marquette High School. Her son, Gabriel was born in 2017.

In her spare time Melissa loved training for marathons, reading, writing, and spending time with friends and family. She had an infectious smile and energetic personality and a way of looking at the positive side of every situation.

Melissa was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elmer and Verna Johnson, and her paternal grandparents, Richard and Melba Curtis, her Uncle Gary Johnson and her Uncle Jon Wesa, and niece Lena Massie.

She is survived by her husband Ryan and son Gabriel of Chesaning. Her parents, Rick and Janet Curtis, Laurium, siblings Rick (Katie) Curtis of Escanaba, Dave Curtis of Bismark North Dakota, Mark Curtis Fowlerville, Emily (Michael) Massie of Atlantic Mine, Will (Steph) Curtis of Holland, Joey Curtis of Hancock. Her father in law and mother in law Michael (Joyce) Beckman of Chesaning . Brother in laws Larry (Anna) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Dean (Angie) Highland, Tony (Lindy) of Chesaning, in addition to numerous nephews and nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins and loved ones.

Melissa attended the First Apostolic Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
