Micah (Mick) Babcock

GRAND RAPIDS — On Monday, May 25th, 2020, Micah (Mick) Babcock, 56, of Grand Rapids passed away with family by his side. He was born on October 9th, 1963 in Toledo, Ohio. His family moved shortly after to the Keweenaw, and he was raised in Hancock. Mick graduated from Marquette Senior High School with the class of 1981. He later attended Northern Michigan University and became a successful builder and finish carpenter in the Grand Rapids area.

Mick had a real talent and eye for building. He had a natural ability to see the outcome or come up with a plan when building anything was involved. We all would watch in wide wonder as he would create masterpieces with wood. It was his life-long passion and he was building right until the end. So many of us are blessed with his handiwork and will always have that to admire and remember him by. Mick was also a natural entertainer. He loved to make people laugh, and many fell victim to his endless pranks. He always knew how to bring a smile with a glint in his eye. We will surely miss his sense of humor.

Mick was preceded in death by his mother, Caroline Babcock-Elder, his maternal grandmother Ella Magnuson, his paternal grandmother Martha Babcock, and his paternal grandfather Clarence Babcock.

Mick is survived by his sons, Matthew (Jessica) Babcock of Grand Rapids, and Micah Babcock of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren, Collins and Calor; his siblings, Sarah (Bill) Broda of Greenville WI, and Clay Babcock of Saint Louis Park, Minn.; his father, Larry Babcock of Tucson, Ariz.; and his stepfather Sam Elder of Marquette. He is also survived by nephews, a niece, several cousins, aunts, and uncles (especially close to Mick’s heart were Aunt Marie, Aunt Judy, and Uncle Russ).

The family will hold a memorial service at a future date.
