CALUMET — James Lamerand of Chandler, Arizona, passed away on June 18 at the age of 73. Jim was born in Detroit, but was raised in the Copper Country, graduating from Calumet High School in 1964 and from Michigan Tech with a Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mathematics.
He was a veteran as well, having served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Viet Nam War, spending most of his deployment in Germany.
After leaving the service, Jim was employed as a computer programmer and software engineer primarily in the Phoenix, Arizona area. He was an avid Scrabble player and competed at numerous national tournaments over the years.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Manzini, step-father Gino Manzini, father Clarence Lamerand, and brother Richard Lamerand. He is survived by his brother John Manzini of Laurium and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9th at the Lake View Cemetery Section V. Ryan Funeral Home is serving the family.
