Katherine T. Persha

LIMINGA — Katherine T. Persha, 92, of Liminga and a former resident of Painesdale, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2020, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on September 16, 1927, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Grentz) DeForge. Katherine was raised in Painesdale and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School with the Class of 1945.

Katherine moved to Chicago where she worked for Michigan Bell and was then transferred to the Hancock office. Katherine also worked at Rugani’s Market in Painesdale and South Range and part-time for many years at the Book Concern Printers.

On May 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Nicholas “Buddy” Persha. The couple raised four children together and after 64 years together, Buddy preceded Katherine in death, on March 30, 2013.

Mrs. Persha was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range and a former member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Painesdale, where she was active with the altar Society.

Katherine enjoyed taking four-wheel rides with her daughter, cooking and baking for family and friends; povitica was a favorite. She also loved bowling, which she continued until she was 83 years old. Visiting and spending time with family was most important to Katherine.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Nicholas; her son, Nicholas Jr.; her sister, Gertrude Durocher; and her brothers, George and Joseph.

Surviving are her daughters, Patricia (Don) Bendzinski of Jackson; Debbie (Keith “Skip”) Blom of Marquette; and, Janine (Bob) Wales of Liminga; her grandchildren, Barb (Mike) Jennings, Marc (Becky) Blom, Laura (Jeff) Moggo, Scott (Cathy) Blom, Tracy (Todd) Korpi, Chad Persha, Amy (Mark) Mann and Shawn Rossberg; her great-grandchildren, Sandy Blom, Mason Blom, Mitchell Blom, Ashlee Mann, Ashlee Blom, Michael Jennings, Carter Korpi, Cameron Korpi, & Keegan Korpi; her sisters, Marge Trasti, Deanna (Norm) Meyers, Gloria Deiro; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Katherine will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2020, at the Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range with Fr. John Martignon to officiate.

All attending are asked to wear face masks and follow social distancing guide-lines. Burial will be in the Mtn. View Cemetery of South Range.
