Uno Isaacson

AHMEEK — Uno Isaacson, 95, a resident of Ahmeek passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at his home.

He was born on June 14, 1925, in Calumet and raised by his mother, Elizabeth Isaacson. He attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1943.

After graduation, Uno enlisted with the United States Army at the age of 17. He served with the 10th Mountain Division, where he was awarded his Bronze Star. In 1945, he was honorably discharged, and moved to Detroit where he worked for one year before moving back to the Copper Country, where he owned and operated Isaacson Citgo on Pine Street for 20 years. After selling Isaacon Citgo, Uno worked as a mechanic for Hue Testavon for several years before he, his wife Agnes, and son, Neil, purchased the Lac La Belle Resort. They operated it for more than 10 years before he went to work for Rowe Moving retiring as a mechanic. Uno then went to help Neil at Sandy Pebbles Golf Course working an array of jobs.

Uno was a fireman for the Calumet Village Fire Department and Lac La Belle Fire Department for several years. He also volunteered at many fundraisers for the Ahmeek Fire Department. He served as a trustee for the Grant Township board as well.

He was an active member with the VFW Post No. 3900 in Calumet and the Clyde Johnson American Legion Post No. 230 in Mohawk. He was a familiar face working Thursday night bingo at the legion.

Uno was an avid fisherman in his younger years and had his charter service. He had a passion for machinery. He could fix anything that needed to be fixed.

On August 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Agnes Stukel.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Isaacson; his twin sister, Gertrude Fields; and son, Neil Isaacson.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes of Canal View-Houghton County; his children, Richard (Marilyn) Isaacson of Calumet Waterworks, Kathy (Tim) Mallmann of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Dale Isaacson of Mohawk; his niece, Julie (Brian) Carlson of Mohawk and his grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Wieland of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Ginny (Tom) Korkko Borts of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Sara (Jason) Arriaga of Alexandria, Virginia, Joel (Katie) Isaacson of Hancock, Matthew (Diana) Korkko of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Bradley (Jodi) Isaacson of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Jacob (Makayla) Isaacson of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous cousins, friends, and military brothers and sisters.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m. on September 25, 2020, at Lake View Cemetery in Calumet with Pastor Ken Toth and the Copper Country Veterans Association to officiate.
