Donald C. Herman

HANCOCK — Donald C. Herman, 93, a resident of the Scott Building in Hancock, and former resident of Arbor Green in Houghton, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at Canal View Houghton County, following complications from a stroke.

He was born February 8, 1927, in Detroit, a son of the late Donald W. and Senia “Jane” (Koski) Herman.

Don graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1945. On the day of graduation, he entered into the United States Navy, serving from 1945-46 during WWII.

He then attended the Grand Rapids Junior College for two years before moving to Arizona where he attended the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale. Don worked for the State Department for many years overseas in Germany. He returned to the states living in Encinitas, California, where he worked for the San Onofre Nuclear Plant. He returned to the area in 2005 to make his home.

Don enjoyed coffee clutches at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, attending theater at the Rozsa Center and had an interest in local Finnish heritage. He was known to walk every day, walking wherever he went.

Don is survived by his brother, David of Liminga; as well as numerous cousins.

Besides his parents, Don was also preceded by a sister, Marjorie.
