Genevieve Stone

HOUGHTON — Genevieve “Gen” Stone, 82, a resident of Houghton passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the Winona House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past three years.

Gen was born on January 21, 1938, in Hancock the first daughter of the late Cyril and Verona (Manderfield) Stone. She was raised in Houghton and attended the St. Ignatius Loyola School before graduating from Houghton High School with the class of 1956. Gen then attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse.

Ms. Stone began her distinguished career in nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital, before working for many years for Dr. Barrios and then for Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell and she retired from Mercy Ambulance.

Ms. Stone was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton, she enjoyed working in her gardens and keeping her yard looking good. She also enjoyed having a cup of coffee and visiting with her family and friends. Gen always had a huge heart and enjoyed helping anyone in need and loved to spend time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother John and several aunts and uncles.

Surviving are:

Her twin brother: Charlie (Diane) Stone of Baltimore, Maryland.

Her sister: Ellen (Edward) Sleeman of Ripley.

Several nieces, nephews, her great nieces, great nephews and great great nephews and great great nieces.

A prayer service for Gen will be held noon Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at the Plowe Funeral home of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Plowe funeral home of Houghton.

All attending the visitation and or prayer service for Gen are asked to follow all proper COVID distancing guidelines.
