Katherine Ann Horvath

HANCOCK — Katherine Ann Horvath, 85, of Hancock, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, following a brief illness.

She was born June 12, 1935, in Hancock, a daughter of the late William and Ina (Kovala) Kolehmainen. At the age of four, Katherine’s father passed away. Her mother later married Reino Kilponen, who adopted Katherine.

Katherine graduated from Hancock Central High School with the Class of 1953. She then attended the St. Joseph School of Nursing, receiving her RN degree.

Katherine worked for Dr. Leonard Aldrich for several years. Since 1978, she was organist at Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock, until she retired.

Katherine was a devoted Christian and faithful member of the former Franklin St.

Apostolic Church in Hancock (now Zion Lutheran Church). She was active in church activities and was a member of the Bible Study.

Katherine taught piano and organ lessons for many years. She enjoyed sewing, baking, knitting and nurturing her house plants.

Besides her parents, Katherine was also preceded in death by an infant sister; and a brother, Paul Kilponen.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Clane) Cammin of Freeland, MI; two grandchildren, Will and Sophie; a brother, William (Kathleen) Kilponen of Hancock; a sister-in-law, Josephine (Rodney) Gamble of Chicago; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Zion Lutheran with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate.
