Donald Martin

HANCOCK — Donald Martin, age 93, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ and family on January 21, 2021. He had been a resident of Canal View since September 12, 2020, where the dedicated staff took good care of Donald. Previously he had lived for 39 years in Lantana, Florida, and before that for many years in Taylor, Michigan.

Donald was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, on December 24, 1927, and resided in River Rouge, Michigan. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy on October 5, 1945. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on December 21, 1948. He was a veteran of World War II and earned the World War II Victory Medal.

On July 28, 1951, he married Adele Loukinen of Princess Pointe and Laurium. They were married at the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church and resided after that in Taylor, Michigan. They moved to Florida in 1981 upon Donald’s retirement from the US Steel Mill where he had been employed as a machinist foreman for many years.

Don was a member of the Southfield Apostolic Lutheran Church when residing in Taylor and the Maranatha Bible Church in Lantana, Florida. During Don and Adele’s summers in Princess Point in the 1980’s and early 1990’s they attended the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church (now the Laurium Shining Light Church).

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Adele in 2013; daughters, Nancy and Marcia; mother, Stella; and father, Valentine.

Surviving is a grandson, Grant Harris; several nieces and nephews; as well as many good friends in Lantana, Florida.

A memorial service for Don will be conducted in the spring at time of burial in the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests Memorials to the Laurium Guiding Light Church, 246 Tamarack St, Laurium, MI 49931 or Maranatha Bible Church, 900 S, Broadway, Lantana, FL. 33462.
