Gladys I. Schutz

HOUGHTON — Gladys I. Schutz, 94, a resident of Houghton, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Omega House in Houghton.

She was born on February 25, 1926, in Painesdale, a daughter of the late George and Mary (Sivonen) Luoto.

She was happily united in marriage to Claude “Cully” Schutz for 39 years. The couple resided in Houghton, where they raised their family.

Mrs. Schutz was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and music.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Clarence Pakkala; her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Dorothy Luoto; her son-in-law, Mike Dixon; and her grandson, Deron Dixon.

Surviving are her daughters, Claudia (Jim) Etapa of Chassell, Mary (Rich) Brovont of Wyandotte, MI, Jeanne Dixon of El Cajon, California, Linda (Joe) Miller of Atlantic Mine, Nancy (Bill) Lepisto of Hancock; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys will be held later this spring at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials be given to Omega House in Houghton or the Copper Country Humane Society in Houghton.

The family would like to thank Omega House staff for their loving care. Also, many thanks to Dr. Trusock and his nurse, Chris, for many years of excellent care and kindness.
