Dale M. Niemi
CHASSELL — Dale M. Niemi, 63, a resident of Chassell, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Dale was born on March 9, 1957, in Hancock, the son of the late Walfred and Ruth (Karjala) Niemi. He was raised in Chassell and graduated from Chassell Schools with the Class of 1975.
On April 10, 1976, Dale married the former Judy Puuri. Dale worked for Quality Drywall for 10 years before he began his career with Semco Energy, retiring in 2018, after over 30 years of proud service.
Through the years, Dale and Judy enjoyed moving place to place in the Copper Country building and remodeling houses. Dale also enjoyed motorcycle rides with his wife, camping, bowling, golfing and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He especially loved helping people with construction projects. Dale was active coaching Little League Baseball and Junior Hockey. He also began volunteering at the Omega House in Houghton. Dale was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock.
Besides his parents, Dale is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Mike and Dennis Puuri.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Seth (Sally Moilanen) and son, Brodie, Travis (Nicole) and sons, Chase and Trey, and Justin (Tracy); his siblings, Diane (Ken) Rudy and Debbi (Tim) Battersby; his stepfather, Earl Lampinen; his mother-in-law, Marie (Dallas) Blakeman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Bryan) Riutta, Jerry (Kathy) Puuri, Tim (Shelly) Puuri, Kris Wales and Sam (Ami) Puuri. Dale is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and Brodie’s mother, Bethany Aho.
Funeral Services for Dale will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock, with Reverend Jesse Aho officiating.
Friends may call on Sunday, February 7, 2021, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock and again on Monday, February 8, 2021, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
The family would like to thank the Oncology Department at Portage Health, Dr. Blankenship at Beaumont Hospital, the staff at Fresnios Dialysis, and special thanks to Bob Wuthrich, Bill Gauthier, Joe Katalin, Jim Melchiori and Bryan Riutta for many years of friendship, and Pastor Jesse Aho for his friendship, visits and kind words.
