Matthew Reoch
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Matthew William Reoch, 34, most beloved son, brother, family member and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 16, 2021, in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Born in Toms River, New Jersey, on September 25, 1986, Matthew grew up in the Bloomington, Illinois, area. In 2005, he graduated from University High School, and continued his education at Augustana College where he was a member of the football team. In 2011, he graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign, and became a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force.
He fulfilled his childhood dream of serving as a pilot in the USAF flying both the B-52H and B-1B bombers. Matthew was a combat Veteran of Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel serving his country in multiple overseas tours.
He was known to live life to its fullest and always loved a good adventure. Matthew spread joy through traveling the world, hiking, running, and his passion – flying. Those who knew him, even just a little, will remember his contagious laugh and ability to light up any room. The world is a lesser place without Matthew.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Jane Reoch of Hancock; his father, Dale Reoch and stepmother, Debbie Reoch of Normal, Illinois; and his stepsisters, Carrie (Chris) Veal and Jessica Reoch. In addition, he is survived by his aunt, Joan Sisemore of Spring, Texas; his uncles, James Pekkala of Las Vegas, Nevada, and John (Tami) Pekkala of Hancock; his cousins, Devlin Sisemore of Spring, Texas, Geoffrey Sisemore of Columbus, Georgia, and Colin (Jordanne) Pekkala of Hancock; and his nephew, Nathan Veal. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Angela, and a host of great friends.
A private memorial service was held on January 28, 2021, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
