Bertha ‘Sammie’ May Heusinkveld

AHMEEK — Bertha “Sammie” May Heusinkveld, 68, a resident of Ahmeek, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021, at Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

She was born on January 30, 1953, on Moline, Illinois, to William and Bertha (Bloom) Stanley. She attended the local schools and graduated from Port Byron High School with the class of 1971.

In August of 1971, she was united in marriage to Vernon Heusinkveld in Morrison, Illinois.

Sammie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and horse riding.

Later in life Sammie attended Clinton Community College where she received her associates degree in business administration. She worked for General Electric for several years, she also worked as an election inspector for Keweenaw County.

She was a member of the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmans Club, Keweenaw Dirty Girls, and Keweenaw ATV Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha Stanley; and her grandson, Austin Heusinkveld.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon of Ahmeek; her children, Todd Heusinkveld of Morrison, Rhonda Heusinkveld of Lake Linden, Shona (Matt) Ernst of Clinton, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jason, Dominick, and Kyle; her great grandchildren, Landon, Louden, Kylin, Karter, Atticus, and Allister; her siblings, Connie (Mike) Howard of Cordova, Illinois, Glenn (Nichelle) Stanley of Camache, Iowa; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per Sammie’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place later this summer.
