David Paul Masters

BRADENTON, Fla. — David Paul Masters, 64, a lifelong resident of Hancock, and a recent retiree in Bradenton, passed away due to complications of a stroke, on March 27, 2021, at Manatee Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Hancock, on April 21, 1956, son of Jack and Lorraine Masters, both preceding him in death.

He was a graduate of Hancock High School. Mr. Masters worked as a custodian/ bus driver for the Hancock Public School system for 32 years. He was a dedicated volunteer fireman for the Hancock Fire Department for 40 years, earning honors as Copper Country Firefighter of the year and the U.P. Firefighter of the year.

On June 21, 1980, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann (Porritt) Masters. Surviving are two2 daughters, Victoria (Aaron) Bartkowiak of Owatonna, Minnesota. and Lynsay (Thomas) Woodring of Kissimmee, Florida. Loves of his life, his five grandchildren, Lila, Joshua, Jack Bartkowiak, Preston and Pierce Woodring; Siblings, John (Gail) Masters of Laurium, Barbara (Curtis) Hoffenbecker of Hancock, and Patricia Masters of Hancock; Brother-in-law, Michael Porritt of Bradenton.

Our Papa loved finding the best deals, playing lotto, and hanging out with his pirate buds at the Captain’s Quarters. He also enjoyed a beer with his firemen friends at tournaments, coffee with friends, and working with his good neighbor Rich. He was an avid Packers and NASCAR fan; loved classic country music, playing the drums in many local Hancock bands, and could dance your socks off!

He will be known for his work ethic and dedication to all of his friends and family. He would always be there when you needed him most.
