David Richard Kangas

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. — David Richard Kangas, 78, of Midlothian. passed away April 2, 2021. He was born to the late Eino and Helia Kangas on March 22, 1943, in Calumet.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Zelma Irene Kangas and sister Dorothy Junttila.

He is survived by his son, David Devry Kangas and daughter-in-law Laura, daughter Kristen Raney and son-in-law Jeff Singley; grandchildren Luke and Brady Kangas and Owen, Alison, and LilyAnne Singley. He is also survived by his sisters, Julene Lampinen and Alice Toss, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dave was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Midlothian.

He served in Korea with the U.S. Army. After his time in the army, he began his 29 1/2-year-career with United Parcel Service. Dave was a quiet man who loved his family. It was his joy to watch his grandkids play sports, dance and perform.

He was generous and kind, unpretentious and tender-hearted. He loved his childhood home Calumet, and enjoyed many days at his lake home there. He enjoyed watching Michigan football, Detroit Red Wings and Calumet Copper Kings hockey. The family is having a private viewing prior to the funeral. The funeral will be Friday, April 9, 2021, at 12 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Midlothian.

Graveside service will be at Westhampton Memorial and Cremation Park following the funeral.
