James ‘Jim’ Germain

LAKE LINDEN — James “Jim” Germain, 78, of Lake Linden, passed away while enjoying his daily walk on April 10, 2021.

Jim was born on November 19, 1942, a son of Clarence and Mariette (Gagnon) Germain. He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1960.

Jim struggled as an adult with schizophrenia, but managed to lead a productive life and was generous to others. He worked in logging at the family sawmill, construction for Roland LaCasse, as a salesman for Fuller Brush Company, for the Village of Lake Linden, and delivering newspapers on numerous routes for the Daily Mining Gazette, along with various other jobs.

Strong in his faith, Jim was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden, where he had been an altar server.

He enjoyed listening to the Detroit Tigers and the Green Bay Packers on the radio along with Dick Storm’s country oldies show. He liked being outdoors, sitting on his porch, and swimming; he kept track of his summer swims on the calendar. His family fondly remembers him making home-movies and home-made rootbeer. Jim was a kind and gentle, good-natured man.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Robert Poisson.

Jim is survived by: a brother, Brian (Peggy) Germain of Calumet; sisters, Sharon Poisson of Hubbell, Gloria “Peachy” Stuffle of Rice Lake, and Donna (Wayne) Racine of Quinnesec, Michigan; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private services will be held. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
