Wilfred (Wil) Niemi
SAVAGE, Minn. — Wilfred Niemi, 72, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2021.
He was raised in Painesdale. He graduated from Jeffers High School, Suomi College and Michigan Tech.
He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1974.
Over his career, he worked in the Texas oil fields as a Ford computer technician, and at Target Corporation.
He was an avid Detroit Lions fan, and also enjoyed a good Minnesota Twins baseball game.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Vieno Niemi of Painesdale.
Wil is survived by two sisters, Kathy Niemi of Eden Prairie, Minn., Sherry Erbey of Savage; niece, Shelly (Gabe) Grohovsky of Savage; nephew, Mark (Erin) Schon of Lakevillem Minn.; great nieces, Madison and Lindsey Grohovsky; and great nephew Cameron Schon.

Private military honors burial, at the Fort Snelling Cemetery, in Minneapolis, to be held in August.
Wil touched many lives with his generosity and witty sense of humor, he will be deeply missed.
