OSKAR — Howard Sten, 81, a resident of Oskar passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the UP Health – Portage hospital with Sisu and grace.
He was born on September 1, 1940, in Trimountain, a son of the late Eino and Lempi (Anttila) Sten. Howard was raised in Painesdale and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School with the class of 1958.
Mr. Sten was a veteran having served with the United States Army.
Following his time in the Army, Howard began a career welding, working for Copper Range & Northern Industrial in Painesdale. During that time, he was president of the Copper Range Welding Union. He then was part owner and president of Dodgeville Welding and Machine for 26 years until his retirement.
In 1991, he was united in marriage to the former Eunice Bishop Paavola.
Mr. Sten enjoyed the outdoors fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed visits to the casino from time to time.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Winifred Sten and his brother and sister-in-law Bob and Dorothy Sten.
Surviving are; his wife Eunice Sten, his children; Wanda (Bill) Sten-Dwyer, Richard Sten, Lori (Brian) Lindeman, James (Holly) Bishop, Michael Bishop, Daniel (Fay) Bishop, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His brother Eldon (Mary Ann) Sten, numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service for Howard will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Oskar Cemetery with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the William Giroux Post#90 of Lake Linden and the Copper Country Veteran’s Association.
