Sharon Sabourin-Nagel-Krys
CALUMET — Sharon Rita Sabourin-Nagel-Krys passed away peacefully the morning of September 18, 2021, at Garden View Assisted Living, where she had been a resident since 2015.
Sharon was born April 9, 1939, in Highland Park, to William and Florence “Babe” (Kirk) Sabourin.
Many of her family called her “Bunny” because she was born on Easter Sunday.
She attended Shrine High school in Royal Oak, and graduated in 1957. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from the University of Detroit in 1961.
She married James Nagel in November of 1961 and the happy couple moved to Flint, where she taught math at Lowell Junior High School.
In 1967, her family of six moved to a farm in Howell, which is where she spent most of her adult life. A fifth child was born to them in 1972. She filled her days with raising her children on the farm. She was a substitute teacher at South West Elementary 1978-79.
Singing was her passion, and she sang with the Sweet Adeline Water Wonderland chorus and the Note-A-Dames quartet. Her hobbies also included sewing, knitting, crocheting, and macrame.
Sharon worked at a small local store in Oak Grove where she met Jerry Krys. In 1985, she married Jerry and began their life together on the farm. Jerry’s two children, Allison and August were happy additions to the family.
She worked for the Jamison-Milner Insurance Agency in Howell for many years and this is from where she retired.
She moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 2015 following her sister’s death to be near her youngest son Matthew (Heather) Nagel and his family. She was a resident of Garden View Assisted Living from September 2015 until her passing in 2021.
It was during this time in the U.P. that she was able to enjoy time and activities with her grandchildren (Kaisa, Ava, and Lewis). During her time in the Keweenaw she enjoyed sightseeing rides around town in her unique bike, going to school band concerts and hockey games to watch her grandchildren, and spending time relaxing with family and friends.
She attended North Point Church of the Keweenaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents William (1976) and Florence (2000), husband Jerry (1997), her ex-husband Jim (2015), and her sister Karen (2015).
She is survived by her children, William (Lisa), Eric and Marion (the twins), Martin (Sheila), Matthew (Heather), Allison (Gerald), and August (Andrea), 17 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
