Louise Erva

HOUGHTON CANAL — Louise I. Erva, 82, a resident of the Houghton Canal, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021, at UP Health System — Portage.

She was born on November 10, 1938, in Liminga, a daughter of the late Hjalmer and Hilda (Seppala) Anderson.

Louise attended the Liminga and Redridge Schools and was a graduate of Houghton High School with the class of 1956.

On October 5, 1957, she was united in marriage to Milton Erva. The couple resided for a short time in Hancock before moving to make their home on the Houghton Canal.

Louise was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. She was a talented seamstress and quilter.

Preceding her in death were her great grandchildren, Carlee, Rylan and Tage Seppanen; son-in-law, Jay Seppanen; her parents, step-father, Leo Niemi, her sisters, Mildred Maki, Helen Kinnunen and Margaret Markham; her brothers, Reino and Melvin; Sister-in-law Eleanor Anderson; Brothers-in-law James Markham and Art Maki.

Surviving are her husband Milton Erva; Her children Joanne (George) Pennala, Marilyn (Brian) Haapapuro, Sue (Mike) Laajala, Dennis (Betsa) Erva, Jennifer (Marvin) Barhorst, Colleen Erva, Michael (Noreen) Erva, Jason (Kelly) Erva; 37 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin (Margie) Anderson; sister in law, Shirley Anderson; brother in law, Peter Kinnunen and Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private funeral service for Louise will be held at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with David Taivalkoski to officiate. Burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery.
