Peter James Manderfield
HOUGHTON – Peter James Manderfield, 62, of Houghton, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, at U.P. Health Marquette, surrounded by his family.
Peter was born in Hancock on January 23, 1959 to the late Matthias and Florence (Kratt) Manderfield.
Following graduation from high school, he worked with his brothers at the family business, Manderfield, Inc. for about 20 years. In 2000, he began working at Michigan Tech University as a master electrician and plumber in the facilities department. He always enjoyed his profession.
Peter and his wife, Leslie Seiler, were married on Valentine’s Day in 1986.
Peter was a member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton, the Knights of Columbus, was actively involved in the Lion’s Club, and he was involved in the Houghton Middle School and Houghton High School football programs.
Pete also carried on the family chicken barbecue legacy by grilling chicken for the Lion’s Club, St. Ignatius church, the high school football team, and many family gatherings.
Peter was an avid sports fan, and he would love to see his friends and family in their favorite sports team’s apparel.
Peter loved the simpler things in life, like drinking coffee on the patio with his brothers, walking the family dog, Penny, with his wife, having bonfires with the neighbors, and watching & chatting about the Chicago Blackhawks and Green Bay Packers.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother Victor, and sister Joan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leslie; four children, Ellen (Ryan) Jones of Vancouver, Washington, Audrey Manderfield of Nashville, Tennessee, Nathan Manderfield of Portland, Oregon, and Dwight Manderfield of Houghton; his one grandson, Nolan Jones; brothers Matt Manderfield, James Manderfield, Dave (Kathy) Manderfield, and Mike (Cynthia) Manderfield, all of Houghton; his sisters Judy (Fred) Coxen of Oxford, Michigan, Paula Manderfield (David Gilstrap) of East Lansing, Rosemary Manderfield of Houghton, Cecilia (Gary) Bakkila of Houghton, and Susan (Michael) Johnson of Painesdale; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Reverend Father John Martignon to officiate.
Spring burial will be in the family lot at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. before the service.
