David Gromalak
ALGONQUIN. Ill. — David D. Gromalak, age 90, of Algonquin, Illinois, passed away on November 28, 2021, at Northwestern Hospital in Huntley, Illinois.
He was born on October 28, 1931, in Copper City, Michigan.
He served in the Army during the Korean War, and afterward graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo with a degree in Aviation Mechanics.
Dave married Jane and they raised three children in Warren, Michigan, and Waukesha, Wisconsin.
The last phase of his career, he worked for John Deere selling earth-moving equipment in Brazil and the United States.
Upon retirement, Dave and Jane moved to Summerfield, Florida, to enjoy the warm weather and sunny days.
Dave grew up with a front row seat to how communities operate while his dad, Peter, was President of Copper City. They had the city’s first phone and were the center of connection. His passion for community involvement included many years in the Jaycees, teaching catechism and most recently his election to the Del Webb Home Owner’s Association, where his penchant for detail and adherence to high standards were a boon to his neighbors.
He was a wordsmith and a great consumer of news, especially concerning politics. His political interests centered around preserving America’s unique freedoms.
He was a jack of all trades: masonry, carpentry, trim work, electrical, electronic, concrete, wallpaper, upholstery, mechanical, and tile work. Dave used his skills to provide a beautiful home for Jane and their children; he and Jane enjoyed working together on home improvement projects and made a great team.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Gale; brother, Fred, and his son, Steven.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jane (Ryan) Gromalak; daughter, Dawn (Rich) Pruchniak; son, Michael Gromalak; his grandchildren, Katie (Jake) Hanhardt, Fred (Jamie) Gromalak, Ben, Rose, and Tom Gerszewski and his great-grandchildren June, Hunter, Daisy, Isabelle, Remington, Boden, and Oaklee. He is also survived by his sisters, Marge Sutinen and Gale (Bill) Langdon; as well as nieces Deb, Chris, Michelle Sutinen; and nephews, Wayne and Bill Kolbe.
