Freya McGrath

She was born on January 23, 1932, in Eberbach, Germany, to Heinrich and Frieda Kappes. She was the eldest of 10 children.

Freya served faithfully alongside her husband in the USAF while raising six children. An immigrant from Germany, she was most proud of becoming a U.S. citizen and that her sons and sons-in-law served in the military.

Freya is preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, her loving husband, Robert McGrath, and two daughters, Linda Greely and Claudia McGrath. She is survived by her four children, Elizabeth (Barry) Dayhoff, Louis (Connie) McGrath, Erin (Richard) Kangas, and Robert (Tammy) McGrath, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandsons.

Freya always had a smile and her laughter was contagious. She was a delight to all who provided for her care. A special thanks to the many caregivers and staff at Friends Care Community.

A family gathering is planned for early October in Calumet per her final wishes. The O’Neill Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock is in charge of the arrangements.
