Robert ‘Bob’ Norden

CALUMET — Robert “Bob” Norden, 83, a resident of Calumet, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at UP Health System – Portage.

Bob was born on October 25, 1938, in Laurium to Earl and Elza (MacKenzie) Norden.

He attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1956.

Following high school, Bob attended Northern Michigan University earning his bachelors of science in music education and he received his masters degree from Northern Michigan University as well.

Bob started teaching at Houghton High School in 1961, he retired from 1991. Bob enjoyed traveling and playing and performing in music. Bob organized and played in many different community bands throughout his lifetime. They included the Top Hatters, Copper Country Clown Band, Keweenaw Swing Band, Backroom Boys, Calumet Community Band, the Swing Cats, Dixie Champs, and the was very active with the Calumet Players.

Through his teaching he influenced and inspired his students to excel to their highest potential in anything they did, especially music. His love of music was contagious.

He was awarded a humanitarian award from Main Street Calumet.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Elza Norden.

He is survived by his brothers, Don (Nataline) Norden of Webster, Florida, Bill (June) Norden of Longwood, Florida; niece, Julie (Tim) Norden Larkins of Dalton, Georgia, and their children, Tyler Larkins and Jack Larkins; nephews, Gary ( Carrie) Norden of Apopka, Florida, Rick ( LaShawn) Norden of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; aunt, Betty Norden Dunbar of Slidell, Louisiana; cousin, Judy LeBris of Walnut Creek, California; and special friends, Cate Lawrence, Benji (Annie) Brotherton, and Karen Tetzlaff.

Per Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of his life will take place in the summer of 2022.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements.
