Suzanne Georgianna Tollefson

L’ANSE — Suzanne Georgianna “Susie” Tollefson, age 77, of L’Anse passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse with her loving family by her side.

Susie was born in Alberta, on March 19, 1944, and eventually moved to L’Anse, with her parents, John “Bud” and Gloria (Sicotte) Watters, and her siblings.

Susie was blessed with a loving relationship with both of her parents, sisters, and brother. The younger generations admire the Watters clan for their deep love and commitment to family. It is something to strive for and cherish.

She married James “Jim” Tollefson on July 20, 1963, and raised four children on the farm on Indian Cemetery Road. Jim preceded her in death on May 2, 2021.

Susie will be remembered for her gracious heart, generosity and sense of humor. She had the incredible gift of making everyone who knew her feel loved. She listened with an open heart and open mind with her loved ones. She took care of those in need as a nurse’s aide and dedicated her time to raising her children and grandchildren. We believe that her presence and wit were her best attributes and greatest gifts.

Susie loved her family, music, antiques, history, birds, fireflies, rummage sales, the Packers and Second Sand Beach.

After hearing of Susie’s passing, one family member said, “heaven just became a lot more fun and full of laughter.” She will be missed by everyone that knew her.

She is survived by her four children James Tollefson, Bridget (Jeff) Collins, Debra (Dave) Lehto, and Kathleen (Jay) LeClaire; seven grandchildren, Amber Larson, Ashley Larson, Chelsey Yowell, Jimmy Collins, Jeff Collins, Erika Tollefson, and Kathleen Tollefson; eight great-grandchildren, sisters, Joan and Bridget; and brother, Joe; numerous nieces, nephews and loyal dog Larry.

Susie was preceded in death by husband, Jim; parents, John and Gloria; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harriet and Arne; sisters, Jeanne, Gloria, Virgie, and Mary; and brothers-in-law, Jim Longman, Duke LaBerge, and Larry Menard.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
