Michael J. Immonen

ATLANTIC MINE — Michael J. Immonen, 69, a resident of Atlantic Mine, passed away suddenly Thursday, February 24, 2022, following an apparent heart attack.

He was born on December 7, 1952, in Hancock, a son of the late Felix and Aileen (Mattila) Immonen. Mike was raised in Atlantic Mine and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School with the class of 1971. He then attended drafting school in Milwaukee for a while.

On March 17, 1973, he was united in marriage to the former Nancy Pascoe. The couple resided in Atlantic Mine where they raised their family.

Mike was always a hard worker and worked a variety of jobs such as a roofer, carpet layer for Rowe Furniture and Lompre’s Carpet Mart, a miner for the White Pine Copper Mines. He then became a rural route delivery person for the United States Postal Service being able to retire six years ago. He was a jack of all trades and extremely handy building four homes over the years and flipping another 19.

He always had a few projects going whether it be fixing ups a car, working on a home or being the sexton for the Atlantic Mine Cemetery or Mt. View Cemetery he was always on the go. In his free time, Mike enjoyed the outdoors hunting and spending time with his grandkids, family, and friends.

Mr. Immonen was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Atlantic Mine.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and three brothers, Robert, David and Stuart; along with a nephew, Robert Jr. this past year.

He is survived by: his wife, Nancy Immonen of Atlantic Mine; his daughter Tracy (Pat Nettell) Immonen of Painesdale; his grandchildren, Carson, Mason and Marissa; his sisters Pauline (Mike) Bussiere of Iron Mountain, Ann Vanderlip of Newbury Park, California; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

A memorial service for Mike will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service Mountain View Chapel of South Range with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.

Friends may call on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service Mountain View Chapel of South Range.
