Albert A. Koskela

TRAPROCK VALLEY — Albert A. Koskela, 81, a resident of Traprock Valley, passed away on Sunday morning, April 24, 2022, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.

He was born on April 28, 1940, in Traprock Valley, a son of the late Albert A. and Elizabeth (Rengo) Koskela.

Albert graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1958.

On August 26, 1961, he was united in marriage to Karen Margaret Niemi in Southfield, Michigan.

After their marriage, they resided in Detroit, where he worked for Ford Motor. Co. In 1967, they moved to Traprock Valley and Albert started Valley Plumbing and Heating and Valley Well Drilling. After he sold the company, he worked at Hitch Engineering until his retirement.

He was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet. Albert also served on the Lake Linden Hubbell Board of Education and the Copper Country Intermediate School District Board of Education. He was currently a commissioner on the Houghton County Board of Commissioners.

Preceding him in death were his sisters, Arlene (Harold) Naasko, Cynthia (Daniel) Miller and Betty (Leigh) Zeitz; and brother in law, Frank Honkala.

Surviving him are his wife, Karen Margaret; children and (grandchildren), Jon (Kelly) Koskela (Samantha and Jason Kytta, David and Molly Koskela), Molly Koskela, Kara (Steve) Heinonen (Carmin and Chase Sturos and Lance Heinonen), Lianne (Ben) Larson (Ciara and Eric Cosellian, Molly and Clay Larson), David Koskela, James (Trisha) Koskela, Steve (Mary) Koskela (Lexi, Brooke, Romey, Bryn and Jade), Marc (Jeanne) Koskela (Kirby, Kent, Dirk, Wade, Dwight, Chet and Sadie); 13 great-grandchildren, Ian, Alawna, Brantley, Emma, Jensen, Kyla, William, Clark, Bryce, Theo, Eloise, Orrin and Blake; sisters, Shirley Honkala, Beegu (James) Keranen, Pearl (Ed) Loukus and Enid (Paul) Pennala; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 7 p.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet with Pastor Mark Halonen to officiate.

Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. at the church on Tuesday.

Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Lake Linden.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements.
