John F. ‘Jack’ MacDonald
CALUMET — John F. “Jack” MacDonald, age 90, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the Canal View Houghton County.
He was born in Laurium on February 21, 1932, a son of the late John J. and Elzear “Dolly” (Francis) MacDonald. Jack attended the Sacred Heart and Washington grade schools and graduated from Calumet High School in 1949. Jack attended Michigan Tech graduating with a bachelors degree in civil engineering in 1955.
He was in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stationed at Fort Belvior, Virginia, for two years.
He began his career with the Michigan State Highway Department, now known as Michigan Department of Transportation, working in the construction division as a project engineer. He retired from the Houghton Project Office in 1992.
In his retirement, Jack enjoyed the outdoors, ice skating, and Calumet High School hockey.
He was a life-long member of the Sacred Heart Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy, in 1983; and his special friend, Margie O’Connell.
Jack is survived by numerous cousins, friends, and former co-workers.
There will be no public visitation, however friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate.
Spring burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Family would like to extend their thanks to the third floor at the Canal View – Houghton County for their compassionate and professional care.
