David C. Koory
ANN ARBOR — David C. Koory, 71, a resident of Ann Arbor, and formally of Calumet passed away on October 24, 2021, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital of Ann Arbor of natural causes.
He entered this world at the Calumet Hospital on June 29, 1950, and was greeted by his loving parents, Clarence and Erma Koory. He attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1968. David enjoyed sports and participated in both track and football while in high school.
In his youth, David would play sandlot baseball all summer with his friends. When autumn arrived, football became the game of choice. Even with the lack of proper football equipment the competition continued which resulted in bruises and sprained muscles. Such were the days of his youth.
After high school, he served two enlistments in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise. During his service, David repaired the fighter jets on the Enterprise and also maintained the communication equipment aboard ship.
His Navy experience carried over into his civilian career as a merchant marine aboard the Great Lakes ore boats and David continued to sail the Great Lakes until the cold weather on the lakes aggravated his arthritis. He then switched to saltwater shipping which allowed him to see much of the world.
David met the love of his life, Cristina Pascual, while on his world wide adventure as a sailor and they were married on September 9, 1990. They enjoyed the friendship and bond between them which strengthened through their years of marriage. Together David and Cristina explored life with great enthusiasm.
It was very apparent that David was filled with the love of Christ due to his desire to seek after God. This was demonstrated when he would lend a hand to anybody in need. His faith in Christ will someday be very evident when we see him in heaven.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
David is survived by: his wife, Cristina Koory of Ann Arbor; sisters, Yvonne Harju of Portage, Wisconsin, Carol (Jerry) Leinonen of Calumet; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service will be scheduled for this summer.
