Janet E. Johnson

MT. PLEASANT – Janet E. Johnson, loving wife, mother, and gram passed away at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on Sunday, May 8, 2022. She was 79 years old.

A Memorial Service for Janet will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Julie Greyerbiehl officiating. Light refreshments will be served immediately following the service. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Janet was born on August 5, 1942, in Houghton, Michigan to Donald and Ruth MacDonald. She attended Houghton Public Schools and earned a degree in Elementary Education from Northern Michigan University. She taught kindergarten and first grade early in her career and later taught reading to elementary students.

Janet is survived by her loving husband, Ray Johnson. The couple met while at Northern Michigan University and were married in June of 1965. They lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Bloomington, Indiana, and Salt Lake City, Utah before making their lifelong home in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She is also survived by her children; Marjy, Jenny, and Jeff (Jennifer), and grandchildren; Jack, Ellie, Will, Luke, and Ben; her brother, Donald MacDonald and niece, Lisa MacDonald.

Janet was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She and her husband proudly attended countless band concerts and games for their children and grandchildren. Janet was active in school PTO, a Girl and Boy Scout leader, and strong supporter of her children’s education. She also enjoyed a great group of lifelong friends, gardening, CMU basketball, and volunteering in the community through P.E.O. and Christmas Outreach.
